Program Description
Get pumped for our final adventure of the 2025 spring semester, Outdoor Kayaking, at Lake James! We will review the basics of paddling a kayak, spending approximately 1.5-2hrs. on the water with a lunch break in the middle. Waypoint utilizes tandem kayaks so all students will have a partner. *Please email Waypoint staff back indicating which staff are interested in paddling and what their paddling experience is**
Program Time: 10am-1:30pm
Estimated Schedule:
- 10:00am- Arrive at Hidden Cove Boat Ramp: 3381 NC Hwt. 126 Nebo, NC 28761
- 10:05am- Opening Circle
- 10:15am-Goal Talk
- 10:25am- Intro to Gear/Review Paddle Strokes
- 10:40am- Partner Up and Get Ready! (sunscreen, bathroom, life jackets, ect.)
- 10:45am- Start Launching
- 11:00am- Paddle en route to Lunch Spot
- 11:45am- Lunch
- 12:20pm- Paddle Games/Return Trip
- 1:10pm- Boats off Water
- 1:15pm- Closing Circle
- 1:30pm- Departure
Packing List/What to Wear:
- Sun Protection (lightweight long sleeve shirt, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses ect.)
- Mosisture wicking undergarments/shorts
- Water Shoes (sandals or sneakers that can get wet)
- Dry Change of shoes (feet will get wet!)
- Towel
- Dry Change of Clothes (Not planning to get in the water but you never know)
- Strap for glasses if you wear them
