Program Description

Join Waypoint Adventure for a social event bringing together people with disabilities, their families and friends, and members of our community right here in Black Mountain, North Carolina!

These socials are designed to be an easy first step into the Waypoint community—offering people of all abilities a chance to connect and meet others without the larger time or travel commitment of a full adventure program. Come join a Social to experience Waypoint in a more casual, after-hours setting: meet the team, learn more about programming, ask any questions you have in-person, enjoy an activity and snacks, and maybe leave with a new friend!

October's Social is "The Great Pumpkin Expedition!" This will be a community scavenger hunt at Lake Tomahawk involving exploring the area in search of pumpkins, each with a surprise fun fact, prompt, activity, or optional challenge. At the end we will all come together to paint our pumpkins, enjoy snacks, share our experiences, and take a group photo. As always, join for as long or as little as you would like, and feel free to wear your Halloween costume if you have one! :)

There are two main parking lots at Lake Tomahawk: one on the north side of the park by the tennis courts off Laurel Circle Dr, and one on the east side of the park off Rhododendron Ave.

We will be meeting in the pavilion next to the tennis courts.

What to Bring

• Water bottle
• Appropriate shoes
• Warm/winter clothes (be prepared to be outside the entire time)
• Wind & waterproof jacket
• Sunscreen
• Sunglasses
• Bug spray
• Blankets to sit on/have while you paint your pumpkin!
• Camp chair (optional)
• Food/snack as needed *(There will be snacks (not dinner) at this event!)

Conditions

This event will take place outside, at Lake Tomahawk Park. There is a covered pavilion .

Transportation

Waypoint will not be providing transportation. Give us a call if transportation is an issue and we will do everything we can to help!

Bathrooms

Accessible bathrooms are located by the tennis courts.
